6 Steps to Reach Any Goal
I have used these simple 6 steps to achieve any goals I have reached:
STEP 1-YOU HAVE TO DECIDE WHAT YOU WANT
A dream exists in your mind; a goal exists in the world. A dream only becomes a goal when you actually do it.
How will you know when you’ve achieved the goal? How will you measure it?
If you can’t measure it, it’s still a dream.
My husband and I had a goal of downsizing and moving to a condo. It was a dream UNTIL the actual day the moving trucks arrived at the new condo and we spent our first night there.
STEP 2-WRITE IT DOWN
Engage in the physical act of writing the goal down on paper. That paper reminds you of the goal. Put it up somewhere that you will see it daily.
You are telling your brain>>>>this MATTERS TO ME.
I had a dream of building a website. I put a sticky note on the mirror in my bathroom that said, “website”. That dream became a reality this year when my website went live.
STEP 3-GO FIND THE FORMULA AND FOLLOW IT
There is someone out there who has already done what you are trying to do. Their formula worked. Use their formula because you know it worked.
BIG STOP!!! YOU WILL NEVER ACHIEVE YOUR GOAL IF YOU STOP RIGHT HERE, AT STEP 3.
STEP 4-DO THE REPS
The reps are the everyday actions you need to do. Expect extremely small gains and no huge leaps. We are hard wired to move away from pain and being uncomfortable. The reps are going to feel like both of these things.
BIG STOP!!! IF YOU CAN’T DO STEP 4, YOU WILL FAIL, GUARANTEED.
STEP 5-MAKE IT FUN AND EASIER ONCE YOU HAVE STARTED GETTING CONSISTENT AT DOING THE REPS
Take out the barriers and put in some visual reminders for yourself. Lay out your clothes for working out, schedule it on your calendar, put it on a sticky note in your car, ask a friend to join you, make a playlist to listen to while you do the reps…anything you can think of to make this fun and easier!
STEP 6-DON’T QUIT!
